Churches: Closed on Christmas

I thought maybe it was limited, but the phenomenon is all over. Many Churches will be closed on Christmas! Why? So people can spend time with their family is the main reason. Couldn't these people spend time with their families in, say, Church? From what I've read, many of the Churches that are closing are so-called Megachurches. They say they are having services on Saturday to make up for it, but isn't Christmas - the day Christ's birth is celebrated - a religous Holiday? Who knows maybe services for Easter will be canceled in the Spring, then why not nonreligous holidays too? New years day, Super Bowl Sunday, Valentines day, Mother's day, Father's day, Independence day, etc. People want to be with their families or friends on those days too don't they?

Some churches offering only eve services, leaving day for families

Lake Hills Church in West Austin is going all out on Christmas Eve with three services. In North Austin, PromiseLand Church will celebrate the birth of Jesus for two hours Dec. 24.

But come Christmas Day, the large thriving churches that normally shake on the sabbath with rocking praise music will be dark. The pastors and church staff will be home in their pajamas.

I don't want to diminish the importance of Christmas, but no churches are ever open on Christmas unless its on a Sunday. So are we suggesting churches open on Christmas, regardless of the day, or stay open on Sunday, no matter what?

Okay, okay... I know... that's not exactly the argument. It's more Christmas falls on a Sunday, so why wouldn't we have service? I'm just thinking through it. We'll probably go. I've read some good arguments in favor of it.

Maybe I missed something in your comment, but Churches normally have Christmas services no matter the day of the week.

Really???? Mine never have, unless Christmas falls on a Sunday. There are ALWAYS Cristmas Eve services... Hmm....

Hmm.. I've always had both Christmas eve and Christmas day. So if Christmas is on Saturday, that's three days in a row.

(I'm sure you've heard of C and E Christians--they only attend on Christmas and Easter.)

Perhaps more and more Churches are switching to a Christmas Eve only thing to "improve" attendance?

We will be going to service on Sunday, Christmas. I decided not to let the in-laws dictate what I would be doing Christmas morning!

If you think a church should have services on Christmas, then by all means, join a religion that preaches that...and then leave everyone else alone.

This is one of the things so disgusting about christianizers. They think they have the right to dictate how other people should worship.

Zzzzz-

Was I bothering you? You came here and decided to comment, you could have left so your first point is moot.

Second - This actually has little to do with how to worship. I am trying to comment on how - wishy washy Christians have become. If you are not a Christian than what are you complaining about!
